Request Honest Event Reviews and Preserve Quotation Permission
A public review request should invite someone's actual experience, including an experience the organizer would prefer had gone differently. Private event feedback and public testimonials have different purposes. Keep the review invitation and any quotation permission separate from a feedback form so participants understand what may become public.
Write a neutral request
Identify the real event and the correct review destination. Ask participants to describe their experience in their own words; do not supply a favorable script or ask only for five-star ratings. Make the request optional, without making artwork collection, future participation or help with a problem depend on a review.
The FTC's review guidance addresses fake testimonials and incentives conditioned on positive or negative sentiment. Do not invent customer words or offer a reward for a favorable rating. Check the rules of the review platform as well.
Separate the organizer, venue and supplier
A participant may be reviewing the host's instructions, the venue or the supplies. Do not present praise for one as proof about all three. An independent host should not describe its own event review as a CanvasPaintParty customer review or imply the supplier operated the gathering.
A neutral example is: “If you would like to leave a public review of our event, use this link and describe your experience in your own words.” Replace the destination with the organizer's actual page and check that it names the intended organization.
Keep a quotation permission record
- Retain the original comment and where it came from.
- Confirm the speaker had the experience being described.
- Ask about the intended quotation, attribution and publication location.
- Preserve the meaning if shortening the text; do not turn a qualification into unreserved praise.
- Record the approved wording and use with the organizer's normal records.
Do not add a rating, identity, job title or date that the participant did not provide. Permission for a quote does not automatically cover their photograph or a wider campaign.
A provenance worksheet
- Actual event and experience described: ___.
- Original source and exact words: ___.
- Proposed excerpt and attribution: ___.
- Intended public location: ___.
- Permission and review contact: ___.
For example, “The starting instructions helped, but I needed more time” must not become “The instructions were perfect.” Keep the qualification or choose a different accurately represented excerpt.
Common questions
Can a host turn a private feedback answer into a testimonial?
Seek the appropriate permission for the intended public use first. A private response is not an automatic publicity release.
Should critical reviews be argued away?
Address any practical issue through the proper channel without exposing participant details or pressuring someone to replace their experience with praise.
Keep operational improvements in repeat-session records, and connect review requests with host planning and voluntary participation.
