Read Painting Material Labels Before Choosing the Activity
Read the labels on the materials you will actually use before choosing a painting activity. A product name, a photo or another host's recommendation does not tell you every use condition. Keep the original packaging and instructions available so the organizer can answer practical questions accurately.
Match the information to the product
Check the manufacturer, product name and any identifying details on the container. Compare them with the information supplied by the seller. If a document describes a different paint or an older version, ask for clarification before treating it as evidence for your materials.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's art-materials guidance explains U.S. labeling requirements and distinguishes labeling from certification. A label should be read as a whole; one statement is not a reason to ignore other instructions. This guide does not certify any Canvas Paint Party material.
Record what the organizer needs to know
- The intended use and any age or supervision information supplied by the manufacturer.
- Warnings and precautions relevant to the proposed setting.
- Instructions for handling, storage and cleaning.
- Contact details or a source for questions about the material.
- Any information the school, venue or program requires before use.
Do not replace missing information with “non-toxic,” “washable” or another reassuring phrase. Those descriptions need product-specific support. Send unresolved product questions through the Contact page, identifying the actual material and the information you need.
Use a label-review worksheet
Create columns for “Material,” “Information checked,” “Question remaining” and “Decision.” A sample entry might say: “Paint set; original label retained; venue needs cleaning guidance for its tables; ask before confirming the activity.” Another could read: “Organizer's brushes; cleaning instructions available; no open question; include in setup list.”
Decisions can be simple: use as directed in a suitable activity, ask for missing information or choose another material. Keep the worksheet with the event planning checklist so a replacement host knows what was checked. It is a preparation record, not a safety certificate.
Keep the instructions with the activity
If supplies move between rooms or go home with guests, make sure relevant instructions remain available. Avoid transferring materials into unlabeled containers that could be confused with food or drink. Follow the manufacturer's directions and the organization's own material rules.
What if a participant has a specific health concern? Refer that question to an appropriate qualified professional and the manufacturer; do not guess from a general label summary. What if the label is missing? Ask the supplier before use. Use product support to request the exact information needed for your planned activity.
