Is this outline paintable? A readiness check
This optional check helps you choose a design you would enjoy painting. You do not need to prepare a ready outline or complete this checklist to order: send a photo or any reference image and we make it paintable.
Look for closed shapes
Painters fill areas bounded by lines. Follow the outline of each main shape with your eye: does it close, or does it leave a gap where one area runs into the next? Gaps are not wrong, but they leave the painter to decide where one color stops. Overlapping lines that cross each other many times make it hard to tell which area is which.
Compare open space with fine detail
Large open areas are quick to fill and forgiving. Small, tightly packed areas take a fine brush, good light and patience. Most good designs mix both: a few large areas for color and some detail for interest. Think about who will paint and how long they have.
Check at the size you intend
The same outline feels different on 8 × 10 and 11 × 14 canvases: detail that is comfortable at the larger size can become fiddly at the smaller one. Judge the design at the size you plan to order. Choosing a size and orientation compares the two.
Review margins and orientation
Keep important parts of the design, such as a face, a name or a date, away from the very edges of the front so they are not lost at the edge of the canvas. Check that the design suits portrait or landscape, and that it reads the right way up from where the painter sits.
Outline readiness checklist
A visual check, not a technical test. It helps you decide; it does not guarantee a result.
Shapes
- The main shapes are closed, or the gaps are intentional
- Overlapping lines do not make areas ambiguous
Detail
- There are some large areas for color
- The smallest areas suit the people who will paint them
Format
- Checked at the intended size
- Important elements stay clear of the edges
- Portrait or landscape chosen and the design upright for the painter
Separate quality from preference
A detailed design is not better or worse than a simple one; it suits different painters. If a group includes beginners and confident painters, offering two designs may work better than finding one that suits everyone; see mixed-design painting.
Choose the next step
Send a regular photo, any reference image or your own outline. We turn your image into a paintable outline. Seeing and approving a design preview is optional; you do not need approval before placing an order.
Use the custom order form. Design assistance and requested revisions are free. If you ask for a preview, these optional review checks can help.
