Preparing a Rehearsal Sample for a Remote Facilitator
A remote facilitator needs to test the painting activity with the materials participants will use. Seeing a finished sample is not the same as knowing which step is difficult to demonstrate on camera. Prepare a rehearsal packet that connects the outline, supplies and planned session.
Agree what the facilitator is providing
Confirm whether the person will demonstrate painting, host conversation, answer technical questions or manage the online meeting. These are separate jobs. Canvas Paint Party supplies physical canvases; do not assume a canvas order includes a facilitator, recorded lesson or video platform.
The workplace painting guide can help place the remote session within a wider group event. The organizer remains responsible for arranging the instruction and technology.
Build the rehearsal packet
- The intended outline, size and orientation, identified by version.
- The same paint and tools planned for participants, or a clear list of differences.
- A sample participant supply list, including palette, rinse container, towels and table protection.
- The available session window and planned introduction, breaks and closing.
- Questions the facilitator should answer during the trial.
Keep shipping and scheduling arrangements explicit. A rehearsal is useful only if the facilitator receives materials before the point at which the plan must be finalized. Ask about timing; do not assume a fixed delivery promise.
Test the view from the participant's side
- Join from a second device and check whether the outline and brush movement are visible.
- Observe whether hands hide the area being demonstrated.
- Test how color names and instructions are communicated when screens render colors differently.
- Check the return from a pause, camera change or lost connection.
- Prepare short written steps for participants who cannot follow every visual demonstration.
Keep devices and cables away from wet supplies. Use the inclusive planning guide when arranging alternative ways to follow the session.
Use an observation log
Record four columns: step, what viewers could see, likely participant question and proposed adjustment. An entry might read: “Leaf detail; hand blocked the edge; unclear where to begin; rotate the sample and describe the start point before painting.” This turns rehearsal feedback into a specific improvement.
The trial guide helps separate tested observations from guesses. Save the final sequence with the repeat-event record.
Remote rehearsal questions
Must the sample be beautifully finished?
No. Its purpose is to expose practical difficulties and produce clear instructions, not a promotional image.
What if the facilitator uses different brushes?
Record the difference and test what participants can do with their actual tools. Avoid demonstrating a technique that depends on equipment they will not receive.
